How to Revive Hair Post-Summer & Get them Winter-Ready

September is for many of us the start of our year. Our Summer holidays have ended, schools and Universities are open and we are back to our normal routine, reminiscing about our time relaxing on beautiful beaches and watching sunsets. And like us, our hair need time and some care in order to bounce back from the effects of Summer. So today, is the time to start giving our hair some love!

Prolonged exposure to UV rays can have its toll on our strands, damaging the cuticles (the outside cover of hair). You may notice that your hair has lost a little bit of color and vibrancy, have become more dry and brittle, have developed split ends and have become frizzy and unmanageable. All these are effects of the sun’s UV rays. Add to that chlorinated water from swimming pools, air-conditioning, dying, blow drying, and regular washing and you are left with tired, lifeless hair by the end of Summer! Good news is that there are things you can do to revive your hair post-Summer and get them ready to face the harsh Winter weather.

Go for a trim
Visit your hairdresser for a trim to get rid of those split ends and allow your hair to bounce back to normal. Or, simply do it yourself at home if you are skilled enough! Just make sure you use a good pair of hairdresser scissors and not a cheap one from your local store!

Your pillowcases matter
The friction between your hair and your pillow exacerbates and can even create split ends. So switch your cotton pillowcase for a silk one which does not produce as much friction. Otherwise, go for a more budget-friendly satin pillowcase. Do not let your hair down while sleeping; tie them in a loose bun before bed to minimize movement, hence friction, while sleeping.

Let your hair down
Since the weather is starting to cool down a bit, there is no need to pull and twist your hair into tight buns, braids, and elaborated hairstyles all of which can cause damage to the hair shaft.
